He thought that the icons that appear on the map were referencing specific people or objects that he was supposed to find there, and was confused when he’d get there, and the symbol would just keep spinning around on his compass. My friend kept asking how I found the “man” in the first town, and I eventually realized he was referring to the Minuteman logo that marked the subdivision of Sanctuary. The Answer: This is one of those questions that would have never even crossed my mind since I’ve been playing open world RPGs for so long.
The Question: “Why can I never find these map icons?” Since then, I’ve heard from many other players that they ran into the same problem. I didn’t understand that I had to move around and place it manually, and that it was already selected and ready to be built. The problem was that the bed I was trying to build was stuck inside the wall behind the workbench, and I couldn’t even see it. The answer turned out to be that even hovering over an object means you’re about to build it, if you have the right qualifications and part. I did, but I didn’t understand how to play it anywhere. It tells you to go to the workshop, and select a bed. One of the first building missions in the game is to build a bed for your Sanctuary settlement. The Answer: This was so confusing that this is a question I actually asked when I first started.
The Question: “Why can’t I build this damn bed?” You may already have a ton unlocked you didn’t even realize.
That will help you incrementally, but the point of doing that is to unlock the perks underneath. Do NOT focus on maxing the letter value alone. Usually after putting in one point, you will have to wait to level higher before you can do another, but with high numbers in specific letters, you can unlock great perks early. If you are level 10 Strength, for instance, that means you have access to at least the first level in ALL TEN perks under Strength. You have to look not just across, but up and down. I’ve seen players start maxing out specific SPECIAL attribute letters early, or even trying to max out ALL of them, because they don’t understand how the system works. Though I really like the functionality of the skill tree, knowing how to use it can be tough. The Answer: Again, this is poorly explained in the game, and has the potential to derail your entire playthrough if you’re not careful. The Question: “Okay I’ve started maxing out the letters, when do I get perks?”
